Fall Sign Makeover: Farmhouse Charm with the Beeswax Distressing Bar

Fall Sign Makeover: Farmhouse Charm with the Beeswax Distressing Bar

As the leaves begin to change and cozy vibes fill the air, there's no better time to give your home decor a seasonal refresh. For this fall sign makeover, we embraced the warmth and texture of layered color and chippy charm—using a few of our favorite Country Chic Paint products (including a special appearance from our limited edition shade, Daydreamer!).

Whether you're an experienced DIYer or just starting your creative journey, this project shows just how easy it is to create a distressed, farmhouse-style look using our Beeswax Distressing Bar. The best part? We reused an old sign we already had—because giving something new life is always in season.

The Base: A Story of Layers

We started with a well-loved sign that already had some beautiful layers:

  • A top coat of Darling (a very soft, muted Purple)
  • Underneath that? A hidden surprise layer of Poppy—our bold and vibrant red and Ooh La La, a soft pink.

Rather than stripping it all back, we embraced these layers and worked with them. The history of the piece would shine through—literally!

Adding Darling + Daydreamer

To build even more depth and charm, we added a coat of Darling (a light, pinkish-purple) over the existing finish. Once that dried, we grabbed our Beeswax Distressing Bar and gently rubbed it along the edges and key areas where we wanted the distressing to show later.

Then came the star of the show: Daydreamer, our dreamy limited edition blue-grey. We painted it right over the Darling and the Beeswax-coated areas. Once dry, a light sanding revealed the magic—those layered colors underneath, peeking through just like fallen leaves through morning mist.

Distressing Made Easy with the Beeswax Bar

If you haven’t tried the Beeswax Distressing Bar, now is the time. It makes layered paint distressing incredibly easy by acting as a resist between coats of paint. When you lightly sand after the top coat dries, the paint over the wax effortlessly chips away—no elbow grease required!

The end result? A beautifully aged, rustic farmhouse look where all the layers—wood grain, Poppy, Ooh La La, Darling, and Daydreamer—shine through.

Finishing Touch: A Hand-Painted Quote

To finish off our fall sign, we pulled out our Artist Brushes and painted a simple seasonal quote using Hollow Hill, a dark green. This final detail brought the whole piece together with that perfect autumn tone.

The Finished Look

The end result is a one-of-a-kind fall sign that feels rustic, layered, and full of character. It’s the kind of piece that fits perfectly on a mantel, porch, or entryway—and it tells a story through every brushstroke and chip of paint.

So, next time you're about to toss an old sign or skip over those half-used paints in your stash, think again. With a little Beeswax Distressing Bar and some Country Chic creativity, you can turn something old into a cozy new favorite. Don't want to use our Beeswax Distressing bar?
